VW takes half of Norway EV market in July 2014

AID: Every second electric car sold in Norway this July came from Volkswagen
Volkswagen’s newly landed e-Golf was Norway’s top-selling electric car in July

Call this a turn-up for the books. Contrary to the widely held media take on events, Volkswagen may be late to the closely watched electric car sales scene, but when judged from its latest encouraging showing in Norway, Volkswagen is catching up fast with earlier arriving sector rivals

AID reports on the big splash made by Volkswagen’s recently arrived electric cars in Norway, where pure battery cars have been attracting much of the buying among Norway’s affluent consumers who have been avidly pursuing a new-found taste for zero-emission motoring.

Close on 100 per cent of the electricity generated in Norway comes from renewable sources.

Here, Europe’s towering electric car capital, where genuine electric cars already account for more than one-in-ten of the buying, Volkswagen’s late arrivals have taken to an already buzzing electric car sales scene like ducks to water.

A case in point, with 391 July sales, Volkswagen’s newly landed e-Golf was Norway’s top-selling electric car last month, relegating Nissan’s Leaf into the unfamiliar runner-up slot.

But that’s not all.

AID compiled figures reveal that a further 282 Volkswagen e-Ups were sold this July.

This means that this July VW models scooped the 1st and 3rd slot in Norway’s electric top-ten.
