The system will use an electromagnetic induction unit that will charge at between 3kW and 6kW and will be 80% to 90% efficient.
Daimler and Conductix-Wampfler are also collaborating to test inductive charging using Mercedes-Benz B-Class E-Cell Plus.
It looks like the future may be wireless - but when will it be commercialised on a widespread basis?
