Surprising Statistics Indicate Electric Cars Are Already Taking Over

Inquisitir.com: Electric cars seemed like several lifetimes away several decades ago, but with the current technological advances, they are slowly coming into vogue, with companies such as Tesla posting record numbers in sales.

Between April 1 and June 30, the company delivered some 11,507 Model S electric cars to customers across the world. This brought the total number of electric cars sold by the company within the first half of the year to 21,537.

The following is the company’s statement as reported by Green Car Reports.

“Today, Tesla Motors announced 11,507 Model S deliveries for Q2-2015.

“This was a new company record for the most cars delivered in a quarter and represents an approximate 52-percent increase over Q2 last year.

“There may be small changes to this delivery count (usually well under 1 percent), as Tesla only counts a delivery if it is transferred to the end customer and all paperwork is correct.”

Nissan, which is currently leading in the electric car segment in terms of sheer numbers, had sold more than 180,000 cars by late June. In the United States, sales in the electric car segment in April were 31 percent more as compared to the same time last year.

However, the long-standing problem with electric car technology has always been the range, with customers generally avoiding them because of the need to recharge after every few miles. Recharging an electric car also can take anywhere between eight to 20 hours, which is a lifetime when compared to the few minutes needed to refuel.

However, there are now a few companies that have dedicated their efforts into overcoming this shortfall. One example is Storedot, an Israeli start-up company, which has specialized in speeding up battery charging. In January, it unveiled a kit that recharges a normal smartphone battery within a few minutes.

It also said that it was looking to move into the electric car segment. Doron Myersdorf, who is the company’s CEO, stated the following about the venture, as reported by BBC News.

“We are just starting to work on electric vehicles. And we intend to show in one year a model of a car that can charge in three minutes.

“We are 100% sure we can deliver, because the knowhow of how you take one cell and combine thousands of them together has already been done by Tesla.

“The user-experience would be exactly like refueling, but without fumes.”

This new development would be a game changer in the industry considering that auto carmakers are already focusing on producing long-range electric cars.
